Theme: Genocide: Impotence or Power of a Word

Pracademics: Journal of Applied and Scholarly Genocide Prevention inaugural issue will be dedicated to exploring the power or lack of power of the word “genocide.” We seek work that evaluates the significance, application, meaning, understanding, institutionalization, and the impunity of the word. This issue will explore the legal, academic, and theoretical implications of use and non-use of “genocide.

Key themes include but are not limited to:

  • Ethics, philosophy, and theories that guide the word’s usage
  • Legacies of its application
  • Implications for nation-states, individuals, and institutions that bear the label
  • Potential ramifications of re-opening the UN definition
  • Relevance of the word in the 21st Century

Submission Deadline April 1, 2023

Pracademics accepts submissions of 6,000 to 10,000 words in length, including footnotes and references that make original contributions to scholarship within the broad interdisciplinary framework of Genocide Studies and Practitioner practices.
